‘When Black women stand up, the world stands with them’: Angela Davis at the W Awards 2023

Angela Davis on how architects can build an abolitionist future of spatial justice

As part of the W Awards for women and non-binary people in architecture, Davis was awarded the Ada Louise Huxtable Prize for Contribution to Architecture 2024, in Partnership with the Architects’ Journal. In this acceptance speech, recorded during the W Awards live event at the CCA, Montreal, Davis discussed what she sees as the abolitionist future for spatial justice, followed by her response to questions asked by Marie-Louise Richards, who wrote Davis’s Reputations essay in the March 2024 issue of the magazine.
