AR Reads: A losing game – harnessing failure

AR Reads is a podcast series by the AR in which pieces from the archive are lovingly selected and read out loud for you to enjoy

This episode features an essay by Keller Easterling published in AR February 2019. This essay was published as the keynote of the Failure issue – an issue that was not about bad buildings or tragic collapses, but that understood the story of architecture as a catalogue of errors that needs to be studied, challenged and continuously revisited.

On this Earth Day, we have chosen to revisit this essay about the catastrophic failures of our contemporary world, from climate crisis to financial crashes to the apparent inability of global infrastructures of space to adequately accommodate refugees. In the face of such failure at such scale, Easterling sets forth a question of new possible ecologies to make use of a broken system.
