Tore H Grimstad, Assad Ansar and Andreas Brunvoll’s Youth Centre in Senegal

A youth centre built in 10 weeks in an area with no electricity

Built in 2011 when Grimstad, Ansar and Brunvoll were still students, Niafourang in Senegal is home to the NGO ‘Friends of Niafourang’, some 300 inhabitants and no electricity. Despite this, the sand and cement block youth centre was optimistically futureproofed with a room for computer work. The low window reveals double as seating, and the corrugated aluminium roof extends to create an area sheltered from sun and rain.
